Positive photostat of Jordan's 1849 journal of a trip from Ohio to California. Jordan traveled by boat on the Ohio, Mississippi, and Arkansas rivers. At Fort Smith his company hired Cherokee guides to take them by mule through Oklahoma and Arizona along the Gila River route to California. He describes Indians, Mexicans, the weather, trail life, mule packing, and the landscape. Jordan discusses members of his own company and passing companies.
